Maurice Tidy, Director General - Facilities Management Association

Maurice has a history with the FMA which commenced with its formation in 1995. From that point, he has been involved on a continuous basis with the Association’s Secretariat in the day to day management and direction of the FMA. He represents the Association for the UK’s FM sector at the CBI’s Trade Association Committee which meets quarterly reporting to Sir Digby Jones. The committee is responsible for a developing role with the Office of Government Commerce with Supplier Relations and the Kelly Workshop which deals with capacity planning in the public and private sectors.

He has a background in construction commencing in the 1950s with Norris Warming as an indentured Apprentice. In the 1970s he moved into the offshore oil and gas engineering sector with Brown & Root where project management was at its strongest and where an early form of partnering existed.

He subsequently had a major interest in an object orientated modelling company that produced 3D CAD drawings for construction and installation. Projects included the Royal Opera House, Portcullis House and 33 Old Broad Street.

During the process of attributing intelligence to the objects that comprised these technical databases or models, the notion of applying asset information for the benefit of facilities managers was developed.

This company, Fulcrum Integration, was acquired by the WSP Group in 1998 and Maurice accepted the role of Group Marketing and Communications Director for eighteen months.

He is a Past Chairman of the HVCA Marketing and Public Relations Committee and Council member and past Deputy Chairman of Facilities Management Domain for the IAI.
