Martin Pickard, Principal - FMGuru

Martin worked for the Post Office between 1971 and 1979 in a variety of personnel, safety and accommodation roles. He then moved on to BT where he worked in property and facilities around the UK.

In 1989, he joined Cellnet and remained there for eleven years. As Head of Property & Business Services, Martin was responsible for an integrated property, projects and facilities organisation.

He moved to Citex in the summer of 2000 as MD of Management Services, managing facilities across Europe for customers including Cisco, Microsoft, DETR and Coca Cola. He was also responsible for the Citex Consulting and Citex Building Surveying businesses.

In May 2002, Martin joined Reliance as CEO of its FM arm, Reliance Integrated Services, managing contracts such as Birds eye, BT and Centrex. He left Reliance in May 2003 to set up the FMGuru network of independent consultants.

Martin writes for a number of management publications, including i-FM, and speaks at FM conferences and training seminars around the world. He was a founder of the AFM in 1985 and chaired its education committee. He holds the CFM, is President of IFMA UK and is a Fellow of the BIFM, as well as belonging to the Institute of Customer service and the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning.

A LITTLE KNOWN FACT:

On the rare occasion when Martin is not busy on something related to FM, he can usually be found putting up curtain poles for Denton Drapes, his wife’s soft furnishing business.
