i-FM: The online resource for facilities professionals

Iain initially studied and practiced architecture in Glasgow at Cockburn Associates and MLDO architects before moving into facilities management as branch manager with George S. Hall in Edinburgh.

Following a successful time at GSH he became MD of Imtech Management Ltd. In 1994 he moved to Highfield Group as group FM and development manager building 15 and operating 68 nursing and residential homes with over 3,500 beds.

In 1998 he moved to Forward Thinking Childcare as development director and undertook a number of additional private consultancy projects. In 1999 Iain started Gardiner & Theobald Facilities Management, which became the UK’s largest FM consultancy. Leaving GTFM as MD in 2003, Iain has recently joined forces with Jenkins & Marr, a 125-year-old architectural practice.

In February of 2004 Jenkins & Marr Facilities Management was launched with Iain as MD and has already successfully established itself in the FM consultancy field with over £500m of PFI projects and £100m of private sector projects. With the acquisition of J&M by the SMC Group, Iain became MD of SMC FM.

Iain is also Deputy Chairman of the BIFM.
