From business focused maintenance that tailors maintenance regimes, to business continuity and disaster recovery planning for emergency responses. From basic environmental accreditation to the long term improvement of your sustainability performance. From engineering lifecycle design, to access to the additional skills and services that organisations may periodically require to support their development.
Sustainable workplace support provides an end to end solution that enables you to access our knowledge and skills at the level you need. Choosing a new service partner can be a risk and the company’s extensive experience in TUPE transfers, BSI accredited management systems and sustainable knowledge ensures they are the trusted partner.
Social, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability must be considered at every stage of an asset’s life. Interserve is a positive supporter of the Sustainable Development agenda and is working closely with clients to implement measures that reduce waste, energy and pollution, and increase the level of recycling in-line with RENEWABLES; Interserve’s framework for embedding a sustainable culture.
The effects of global warming, pollution and the use of natural resources, driven by human activities, are being realised worldwide. RENEWABLES looks at 10 aspects of sustainability to help drive best practice and innovative solutions across a range of estates: Raw material use, Energy, Noise, nuisance and dust, Emissions, Water, Adapting buildings for climate change, Being, health and wellbeing and communities, Land use, Economic considerations and Solid and hazardous waste. This framework has seen a significant difference in client’s sustainability performance and in particular their carbon footprint.
Through RENEWABLES Interserve has developed an evidence-based guide for staff and clients to ensure that the optimum sustainable options can be selected at any stage of an asset’s lifecycle. The guide also includes practical advice and a checklist for employees and clients to use to enhance sustainability at all stages of a project, from design through operation to completion. Every individual has a direct impact on the clients’ carbon footprint and so Interserve is uniquely positioned to drive sustainability and therefore value across their customer’s estates.
Access to RENEWABLES; through sustainable workplace support, provides our customers with a whole life approach from design and construction of BREEAM excellent buildings, to reverse engineering, replacing the inefficient with modern plant and material; from active supply chain management to reduce waste production, to behavioral change programmes.
Individuals within Interserve have harnessed and entrenched sustainability within both, their own and their client’s businesses. Sustainability has become more than just an aspiration; it is embedded into every action across the company and the services it delivers across the UK and internationally with direct and positive results for its clients.
Part of the RENEWABLES guide includes a focus on ‘Being - health, wellbeing and communities’. This encompasses everything from engaging with communities, supporting charities and invoking good practice. Since Interserve made the commitment to sustainability, more employees have engaged in social responsibility, than ever before; raising £100,000 for charity. For example, in April 2009, over 70 individuals dedicated their own time to refurbish Acorns Children’s Hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham. The team renovated the garden, kitchen and therapy area, with all resources donated by local businesses. The team raised over £43,000 for the charity and have continued to support the centre, recently installing a new cabin.
As part of Interserve’s RENEWABLES approach and commitment to the social aspects of sustainability, Interserve was also one of the first companies in the industry to sign the Skills Pledge; guaranteeing every employee the opportunity to raise their minimum standard of education to NVQ level 2. By July 2010, Interserve will have trained 2,000 apprentices in both Cleaning and Facilities Management, on schemes developed by Interserve, in conjunction with Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council.
By effectively reducing usage, re-using and recycling, clients can see a significant difference in their carbon footprint. With a framework and commitment now in place, employees have been going above and beyond the contract requirements to drive sustainable value and improve services for its clients.
Once seen as a luxury, or even an optional extra, a robust sustainability programme is now a necessity, businesses and organisations are now placing sustainability at the heart of their decision-making and to be a trusted supplier, it is important for Interserve to not only mirror this approach, but help lead the way.
Adjusting your organisation along more sustainable lines is often seen as an expensive exercise and during these challenging economic times many organisations might shy away from making these changes. But, importantly, making adjustments that boost efficiency and reduce carbon emissions also often reduce costs.
Interserve typically achieves 10% - 25% efficiency savings for it clients, through the implementation of sustainable, behavioral change initiatives and RENEWABLES has been a major catalyst.
