Entries for the 2006 Award provided strong evidence of continued rapid development in technology use in FM, especially in the application of web-enabled systems accessible virtually anywhere, anytime.
Judges shortlisted four candidates, each very strong on its own terms, making the final decision a difficult one. Overall, the judges were struck by evidence of the closely defined principles that underpinned the value of each offering.
Much admiration was expressed for the strong commercial spirit behind each of the shortlisted entries, especially those emanating from smaller organisations.
In each case, it was clear that real benefits - both tangible and intangible – had been brought to the companies developing the systems, as well as to their clients and, ultimately, the industry as a whole.
Winner - IPG
Intelligent Property Group's CentreMonitor was developed to meet the specific needs of FM in the shopping centre sector.
CentreMonitor enables shopping centre owners and managers to integrate best practice operational systems more simply and rapidly than ever before, while empowering them with the production and analysis of business-critical information anytime, anywhere, on any device.
The processes and standards embedded within CentreMonitor enable, but also continuously track, compliance with the highest standards of responsible property management, at each level of the performance chain.
IPG demonstrated its solution in a highly successful application by facilities services group MacLellan on behalf of property owner/investor PruPIM.

Finalist - FM24 with Cirrus
FM24 provides 24x7x365 helpdesk services to a wide range of clients. With so much frontline experience, the firm saw a clear need for a full-function software system that combined intuitive operation in a genuinely user-friendly package.
The solution was a custom-built system tailored to clearly defined business needs.
FM24 partnered with application developer Cirrus to produce bespoke software that could also be sold to customers, with FM24 providing value adding back-up. The result was fmhorizon, a system fully in line with needs, which – unusually – delivered almost instantaneous payback.
This entry was highly commended by the judges.

This bespoke system delivers measurable benefits for MoD staff in terms of operational efficiency.
The solution is an effective solution to a specific problem, developed in the context of a demanding client - specifically in regard to the very high levels of security required.

Finalist - GSH Group
GSH entered its innovative and forward-thinking asset risk register, developed for application on behalf of clients.
The system impressed the judges with its extensive specification, though the implication of that is a requirement for ample 'up-front time' for data capture.
The register is particularly suited to large organisations and multi-tenanted buildings where the payback across multiple assets becomes more significant.
